Old George Mall is playing host to a giant ‘Poppy Tree ahead of Remembrance Day’

A giant tree filled with poppies will be in Old George Mall from this Saturday, as the Salisbury shopping centre helps commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War.

From Saturday 20 October until Sunday 11 November, the giant installation will be located outside Marks & Spencer in Old George Mall for shoppers to see up close. On Saturday 27 October, the centre will be teaming up with the Royal British Legion, complete with performances from the Royal British Legion Band and the chance to purchase poppies.

Old George Mall Centre Manager, Jon Osgood, said he was delighted to be playing host to the giant spectacle. “Our Poppy Tree will really be a sight to behold and I’m thrilled that we’ll have it in the centre as part of the wide range of Remembrance Day events taking place across the city over the coming weeks,” said Jon, “And we really think our tree will add to those events.”

“This year marks 100 years since the end of the First World War, and as time passes it is even more important that we remember the sacrifices that were made a century ago. We hope that our Poppy Tree will not only inspire people to donate to the Royal British Legion, but to learn more about the war.”

The Old George Mall Poppy Tree will be in the centre from Saturday 20 October until Sunday 11 November.
